HYDRO POWER

Hydro power

Worldwide, approximately 90% of all renewable energy is generated by hydroelectric power plants. Due to their geographical location, Norway and Brazil are, for example, in a position to cover their electricity demands almost exclusively through water turbines. Austria and Switzerland also meet about 50% of their energy requirements by hydropower. The investment costs for hydro power stations are much higher than for other renewable energy sources, however they enjoy the longest lifespan at about 100 years. At 85%, hydropower also has the largest efficiency of all renewable energies.
The electricity from hydropower, like bio-energy, has the advantage of being largely independent of day, season or the current weather. The amount of potential power supply is thus predictable over a very long period of time, resulting in a high level of security for an investment.

Even in times of crisis, investments in hydroelectric power plants guarantee stability, driven by legal feed-in tariffs and a continuously growing worldwide demand for ecologically produced electricity – a basic need of all humans.
