Performance
Alongside other available sources, the NCREIF Timberland Index can be used to present the past ROI and to create benchmarks with other asset classes. Since 1995, this index is calculated annually and reconstructed for the previous years, starting in 1987. The index represents the weighted average yield of wood plants of the NCREIF members and was worth 12 billion dollars in 2007.
Forestry investments achieved a remarkable performance in the past. The annual average performance of the NCREIF Investments between 1987 and 2007 added up to +15.3%. A considerably better development compared to the S&P 500 and DAX indices.
